Such sad news from Turkey....

Poor Mandi - she's lost 3 of her kittens this past week. They are her babies and so she's extremely close to them. Well first of all, Panda the youngest, died suddenly last week and she was absolutely distraught. He was such a beautiful little kitty, always wanted to be close to Mandi and spent so much time cuddling in. He was found abandoned outside her home, so Mandi being Mandi took him in and nurtured him, he was only about a month old when she found him. He was soon under the wing (paws) of the two younger kittens - Jack and Louie.

Panda is the white kitty. Well after he died, she took Louie and Tiger to the vet to be neutered, because the amount of kittens are becoming a problem. When Louie was there, the vet found out she had flu, so kept her in there until she was fit again. Tiger was found to be pregnant, so she was brought home again, to have them and then she could be taken back to be spayed. Well apparently Louie died this morning. Mandi was so upset, because she and Louie had become very close...

Well yesterday Tiger had an early birth with two stillborn kittens. That was so sad, but in a way it was good, it meant that Mandi wouldn't have to worry about where the kitties could be taken.

This morning, Tiger went to Mandi on the couch, snuggled in and she died a couple of hours later!!! As you can imagine Mandi is absolutely distraught. She's lost 3 of her kittens - all in a space of a week.

I have tried to call Mandi to talk to her, but she's so sad, she doesn't want to talk at all. So she knows I'm here to listen and to send her the right caring feelings, but I just wish I could give her a big hug.

I'm sorry this is a sad story but I just needed to share it with someone. I just hope that it won't be long before I can talk to Mandi and say all the right things to her, but it won't be the same to her as having her kitties with her.

I just hope we all have a better week to come.

When you can, Jenni, please pass on my condolences to Mandi.
That is all so sad, sudden deaths of furbabies in the family is always distressing.
Especially such photogenic furballs ...

That is a sad tale Jenny. I know the kittens become part of the family. I hope Mandi finds some replacements soon.

Thank you Steve - yes they had become a very big part of her family as she can't have her own children, so was looking at these as her "babies". There are many cats and kittens around her home, and she already has 3 in the home and probably about 5 outside in the garden.

Thats awful for her. Im very sorry for her loss. It does seem one hell of a coincidence though. I wonder did they all have this flu and the vet didn't catch it with the last? Hmm. Please tell her I'm sorry...

Yes I will tell her your words, Gracie - you are so kind to care. She's still in shock I think - she keeps saying that "that's life over here in Turkey" - apparently it's unusual to keep your cats/dogs longer than a couple of years, but I think that it's because they're not neutered and go wandering and then heaven knows what happens to them then!!!! She's having all the cats inside and outside her home all neutered. So that should be a good thing.

Oh Jenny...ohhhhhhh I'm soooooo sorry for Mandi's loss...there just aren't any words. I don't know what to say. I'm beside myself with sorrow for your dear daughter and her broken heart. Please let her know how sad I am...I wish that I could give her my warm hugs and comfort right now. What a horrible tragedy. :(

Oh thanks for caring so much Janet. I have spoken to her and obviously she's in tears, but she's hoping that by neutering these other cats, there's a chance they won't go wandering and stay at home, avoiding other cats' illnesses. I wish I could be there for her too, but like everywhere else, travel is restricted until they sort out this coronavirus. So far there aren't any confirmed cases in Turkey and they don't want any neither!

Yes I will tell her Fran, and thank you for your lovely words. What I'll miss about Panda, is the way he used to sit on Mandi's lap and just gaze lovingly up to her. The love shining out of his face was one to marvel at. They were only kittens and she'd only had them since April last year - but they'd made an amazing effect on her. They all loved being cuddled and when she was feeling low, they made her feel so good. I talked to her yesterday and she is still in shock but trying to come to terms with it all.

I certainly will, Val, and thank you so much for your caring words. It is really hard on her because she's virtually brought them up since they were about a month old (well two of them were born in the house), and because she can't have children, these are her babies.
