I have just completed a tiny chick for my neighbour's newest grandchild. It's only 3" tall - how hard can it be? B*%#¥y hard! It was so fiddly, being so tiny. Also I had to rethink how to make it. I first chose a lovely faux fabric in cream. I ended up being covered in bits of fur. I got as far as making the head but stopped because this was for a new born and any toy goes straight into the mouth. The way the fur was coming off, there's no way I'm going to be responsible for choking a baby.

You can see how bald it is, so that's a big no-no. Luckily I happened to have a good amount of material in my plastic tubs. I found some "minky" which is a super soft material, normally used for throws etc for children.

I proceeded to make the chick out of this material. I was going to add a joint so the head could move - after wasting 3 hours trying to join the two halves together by pushing the washer onto the joint pin I gave up. This decision didn't come without complications, I had to unpick the stitches, then join the head to the torso. It's been a very long time since I had to sew so tiny stitches. I eventually finished it after nearly 10 hours ! I do hope the child likes it.

No this will definitely be the last teeny tiny soft toy I'm ever going to make. My hands are so achey since I finished it .

Well that's about all my news, so far anyway! I'm still in the middle of decorating the tree but time flies by so quickly.

I do wish you all a very happy Christmas and a fantastic new year.
