Koska on Suomen kielen päivä, niin käytetään sitä. Huhtikuun neljäs on myös Suomen kirjakielen perustajan Mikael Agricolan päivä. Häntä on suomalaisten kiittäminen monien suomenkielen sanojen synnystä, lukutaidon edistämisestä ja suomalaisen kansallisuusaatteen luomisesta. Ilman kirjoitettua kieltä ei kansallisidentiteetillä ole juurikaan kasvusijaa.

Poor Google translate, which had to skip half of the text! =D

Oh yes! I also recognized this! But to my opinion this is a new phenomenon. As far as I know it worked in earlier times.

Do you mean the nationalism, raindrops in the window, flags, or lousy ASCII emojis(?) =D

Sort of beautiful morning it was as well, because we got a thin layer of fresh snow. But it is soon melting away.

Oh, I agree. I also recall the Google translation being better earlier. As you may have noticed on some ima team posts, we have considered switching to DeepL. If we manage to get it implemented, there of course is no longer some rare languages like Finnish available. But at least 99% ipernity users would then get decent translations between most used languages.

Well, in DeepL you can translate from English to Polish; then switch to Google and translate from Polish to Finnish ;-))

Hmm... Not sure if that is the best choice =D

Besides, most of the Finns really have no problems to understand English. Writing it is a different issue. Or writing in any foreign language. Then comes the problem of understanding all other European languages.

So, Finns can manage with DeepL, and translate texts to English.

I also start to believe Google has set some limits on their translation API. If I copy that Finnish caption and put it on Google Translate web site, it manages to translate much more of it:

Because it is a Finnish language day, it is used. The fourth of April is also the day of the Finnish literary founder Mikael Agricola. He is thankful to the Finns for the birth of many Finnish words, for promoting literacy and for creating a Finnish nationality. Without the written language, the national identity has little growth.

In the past, this was often observed with the internal Google translator, Sami.

It is a very puzzling "behavior". I tried to shorten one sentence in the middle, to get it translated as well. But then it left out one more sentence already translated!

I tried from Deepl to Google Translate, because of the Finnish language, but not very good results.

Finnish is just for the happy few :)) Besides Finland is the happiest country in the world according to an UN report :)))

I've been watching this "phenomenon" for years, Sami. It is really strange. The problem is that many don't seem to pay attention and that the apparently poor vocabulary of the internal Google translator can impede the comprehension of the text read. I therefore always translate texts with more than one or two sentences externally. If the implementation of the DeepL translator works, I hope that we won't have the same difficulties.

I guess most of the users have just ignored it, and not much missed the possibly missing sentences. Although, it is difficult to keep track on everything reported all over the place during past years.

If you dive deeper, it can actually be or become difficult for one or the other. Then the correct method of breathing can be helpful. ;)

The translation to portuguese is....trash... but I found one to spanish and the job was correctly done:
Debido a que es un día en lengua finlandesa, se utiliza. El cuatro de abril es también el día del fundador literario finlandés Mikael Agricola. Está agradecido a los finlandeses por el nacimiento de muchas palabras finlandesas, por promover la alfabetización y por crear una nacionalidad finlandesa. Sin el lenguaje escrito, la identidad nacional tiene poco crecimiento.

The last sentence is so true....
