I love this mangle, Rosa. It reminds me of the one I photographed in Dumfries. You very kindly left a comment about that pic.

I have left another link for you in the comments under my Woolies pic.

Have a great new week.

Cheers,

Joe

Yes, I remember the lovely red mangle and poem ;-))
Thank you for your link on the Woolies pic Joe. I'm not sure if it is still there, but someone took over the Woolworths in Dorchester and called it Wellworths with a tag line - well worth the money. I remember Chris Evans opened it.
Cheers, Rosa.

Such beautiful cottages...........I love the stonework. The mangle seems to be in fantastic condition for it's age and it makes a wonderful conversation piece. I love the name of the road and the cottage too.

Three super images Rosa. Have a good week.

Hi Rosa
I like this set of pictures very much!
The composition, and the inclusion of the mangle is really interesting.
I wonder how long it has been there...
Not sure if the intention is to sit on those stone blocks, but maybe they can count as a bench for today!
Best Wishes, HBM, a good week ahead, and stay safe!!

Hi Peter,
I remember the mangle being there for at least eight years and probably more.
It is down a small dead-end lane with a footpath back up to Shaftesbury...it's very steep!!
Thank you for your kind comments.
Best wishes,
Rosa.

A couple of wonderful examples of washday history, a bit of health & safety with the guard my wife had a finger that bore the effects of tangling with one of those, I have just finished making a wood surround for a Belfast Sink the glaze is breaking up it's a 36inch one I have another 3 of various sizes. I hope they have them securely fastened down !!

I am very thankful that things have changed so much now Peter. The first washing machine I had when I got married had rollers on, and I thought that was good! Probably no such thing as wash-day Mondays now! Have a good day.

I had an Aunt and Uncle who lived in a hard water area but they had a big underground tank for rainwater, if I stayed there Sunday night I had to pump ( by hand ) all the water that would be needed for washday

That's lovely. Someone with a sense of humour and sharing it with the passers by. I wonder which came first, the cottage name or the mangle. They are lovely old cottages.

I love finding quirky things like this Jean. It's along a narrow dead end lane with just a very steep path back up to Shaftesbury, so I doubt many people see it. I would love to find out more about Laundry Lane.

Mangle: "a machine used for pressing water out of clothes by putting the clothes between two heavy, smooth, round bars"
I must confess I had to look it up in the dictionary, dear Rosa, because I have never seen a mangle before , though I am sure there must have been mangles in Italy too!
I like your beautiful images of this lovely cottage and its lovely wall stone, but I love the mangle best. How interesting! You have a real talent for finding unusual things, dear friend!
Enjoy your evening and take care

Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Adele club
Probably a lot of mangles in Italy, but long before your time dear Adele ;-)) I must confess that my daughter took me to this small street many years ago. She is really good at finding the unusual. The mangle was there then and I was pleased to see that it was still in place :-))
Have a good evening my friend and stay safe.

Tampoco esta la vi hasta ahora. Me gustan esas fachadas de piedra, con su color natural en la foto y buen enfoque nítido. Que tengas buen miércoles, Rosa.

They are built from the local Melbury greenstone, which is still quarried but only on a small scale. Thank you for your kind comments which are much appreciated.
