Mind the Toads!

Mind the Toads!
This sign appeared outside my daughter's cottage last week. See PiP on sign - "Toad zone at night. Migrating toads. Please drive carefully. Thank you". Volunteers wait by the pond (PiP) in the evenings to help them across the roads to the pond, just around the left hand bend in the picture, without being run over. Unfortunately I have not been there at that time to see them.

E. Adam G., gezginruh, Istvan Farkas, Andy Rodker and 26 other people have particularly liked this photo

A great and interesting shot Rosa.
Not sure that 'migrating' is the correct word but who cares - we know what they mean !!!!!

Schitterende opname en pip,Rosa.
Het is goed dat ze de paddentrek zo goed begeleiden ,anders worden er veel dood gereden.

The toads have probably been hibernating for the winter, Rosa, and are migrating to the breeding pond. It must be amazing to see them cross the road.

I would love to see them Amelia. Michelle said they have to pick some up and help them across when cars come.

Good morning Rosalyn I hope there is a little brightness in your part of the country, very wet and miserable at Groby. I hope they efforts will be rewarded with plenty of spawn in due course

Great set of images of a beautiful village Rosa. Nice to see the villagers care enough to do what they do. The toads/frogs in our Wykeham Forest use the deep (waterlogged) troughs left by the heavy tree cutting vehicles in which to breed. The dogs are fascinated when the tadpoles appear.

Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Doug Shepherd club
It is good to see Doug. Sounds like a lot of activity in your neck of the woods as well then. There will be tadpoles everywhere soon :)

A Toad sign as opposed to a Road sign...................how wonderful..!!

That looks like a beautiful place to live Rosa............and they obviously care as much for the wild life as they do for their village!

A delightful shot.................and some lovely sunshine too!

Keith you always come up with the best lines! What a good title that would have made!!

Yes it is a lovely friendly and caring village and I am very pleased you like the pictures. It was good weather on Saturday when I took this but it has definitely gone down hill since! Here's hoping the sun returns soon.

It's funny how life turns out sometimes Maurice. If someone had told me my daughter would be living there a year ago, I would never have believed them! It certainly is a lovely village.

Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to José Manuel Polo club
Thank you very much José. I am pleased to hear that your town is also taking good care of the toads. Sometimes nature needs a helping hand.

Once it gets warm they start migrating, a good thing the villagers do help! It's the same over here where low fences are often erected along busy roads. They even build small tunnels to help the toads cross.

Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Gudrun club
Oh yes I know of places that build tunnels for the toads. So good that people are prepared to help them. My daughter stopped her car for a couple of slow ones and helped them to the pond.

Hi Rosa

I really like this, and the thought of helping toads..

In France they have a recognised sign in their Highway Code with a picture of a frog on it (Yes really!) to warn of places where the creatures habitually cross the road.

Best Wishes, and a good weekend
Peter

Hi Peter,

My daughter helped a few of them across the road. That is a good idea that France has :)
Thank you for your kind and amusing comments.

Best wishes, Rosa.
