London - small bit of a larger artwork 19
this is about 1/300th of the painting
yes, the painting is large, but this area isn't that big at all yet has such incredible detail!
does anyone know who the painter is?
(I do, just wondering if we have any painting aficionados out there.)

raingirl club has replied to Malik Raoulda clubRegarding the painter: I don't really know much about old painting (and only a bit more about modern art), but there are some hints:
1. The painting is in the National Gallery in London.
2. Given the naturalistic style and assuming it is a notable painting, it was probably painted sometime between 1350 and 1850.
3. It shows a scene with someone in a white garment sitting on a red cushion or armchair.
4. The garment doesn't look like fashion contemporary to the painter, so it is probably a historical, mythical, or biblical scene.
Moving the mouse pointer over the links in the "collection highlights" section in the Wikipedia article (it is easier in the German version as the list is smaller), there is a picture with a white garment with golden edges (it took me a second look because I was expecting smaller figures)...
So I guess the painter is Sandro Botticelli. ;-)
raingirl club has replied to RCW. clubDid you discover it was in the National Gallery via the map feature? I would say you are now have much more knowledge about old paintings, having checked out so many in the wikipedia article.
I will reveal the truth and the painting's title in a few days.
