Sie ist ca 5-12mm groß,die Fliege fällt durch ihre dichte, pelzige Behaarung auf. Sie lauern auf dem Dung oder auf nahegelegenen Pflanzen auf andere Fliegen, packen diese mit ihren kräftigen Vorderbeinen und saugen sie aus.Als "Nachtisch" fliegen sie auch Blüten an, um Nektar zu trinken.
