February Coastal

A pleasant mid-February afternoon at Burnham on Sea on the Somerset coast, The low tide has emptied Bridgwater Bay leaving the sandy 7-mile beaches to the dog walkers and sand castle builders.
The image also features Britain's shortest pier, built in 1911 at just 100ft (ca. 30 metres) long.

In this mood it is hard to belief, that those walls on top the stairs will ever have a use ... but I know, seas can do differently than on this image.
And the baby-pier is lovely indeed.
Maybe the builders didn't reckon with that coast-fortifying walls and hoped, the coastline would move inland by and by, letting the pier grow ...

Many thanks Leon, the waves regularly over top the walls including during this morning's high tide, a number of locations along the coast and up river suffered flooding, although non were very serious mainly due to the lack of wind.
