Ayr is a town situated on the southwest coast of Scotland. A former royal burgh, today it is the administrative centre of South Ayrshire Council, and the historic county town of Ayrshire. With a population of 46,982, Ayr is the 15th largest settlement in Scotland and second largest town in Ayrshire by population. In 16.9 format therefore a large view may be better, HWW!

Off the Wall Sadly on a recent visit, it was clear the the sun has taken its toll and the mural has faded badly, soon only photographs will remain!

May Bank Holiday

11 May 2024 41 42 710
Evening Sun highlights the huge Sea Wall that helps keep the higher tides in Bridgwater Bay from flooding the town, at Burnham on Sea, The wall is 1 mile (1.61 km) long with a height of 10ft 6 in (3.2 m) and during storm surges waves still overtop the wall, Large view Please

Sunset View

The bench is the main focus however you do need to stand to see the Sunset, The sea wall has to be this high to cope with the vast tidal range, HWW from Burnham on Sea!

Sun, Sea and Shadows

Another changeable day on the Somerset Coast, This is Blue Anchor looking East with people taking exercise along the promenade while keeping an eye on the weather! The mile long beach is available to dog walkers all year around and is great for fossil hunting, in fact Blue Anchor and Lilstock is a 742.8-hectare geological Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). The height of the seawall gives an indication of the tidal range in the channel. HFF and a nice weekend,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Large view, perhaps.

February Coastal

07 Mar 2024 46 80 549
A pleasant mid-February afternoon at Burnham on Sea on the Somerset coast, The low tide has emptied Bridgwater Bay leaving the sandy 7-mile beaches to the dog walkers and sand castle builders. The image also features Britain's shortest pier, built in 1911 at just 100ft (ca. 30 metres) long. Shot in 16.9 format, so a large view please,,,,,,, HFF and a great weekend to all!

In the Shadows

20 Feb 2024 31 47 385

Bridgwater Bay on the South Esplanade at Burnham on Sea, which was a small fishing community that was turned in a seaside resort by the Victorians, Better suited to mono in my opinion, also two notes showing the twin Lighthouse positions HBM and a large view perhaps

Sea Wall,

13 Feb 2024 41 59 597
Bridgwater Bay and a gap in the Sea Wall allows access to the beach at Burnham on Sea. This wall was built in1988 as replacement to the previous storm damaged structure, The bay has the second-highest tidal range in the world, up to 36 feet (ca. 11 metres) and at very low tide the sea can recede 1.5 miles (2.41 km) , The curved waterway left of image is the mouth of the River Parrett. The lower lighthouse, in the distance, was built in 1832 and is a grade 2 listed structure, HWW and a large view please!

Sea Wall, pip

21 Feb 2023 47 60 513
The Sea Wall as the sun sets, Bridgwater Bay at Burnham on Sea, Somerset, The pip shows South Esplanade which is along the top of the wall, A wall of this size is needed because of the huge tidal range which is the second highest in the world, the steps are designed to take the power from waves before they hit the wall which is curved to throw the water back into the sea. HWW Folks

Day's End

17 Jan 2023 39 52 688
The last fisherman leaves as the tide recedes and the Sun throwws it golden light on the sea walls, now it's mainly just the gulls that remain, The wet steps show the day's tidal range. Bridgwater Bay at Burnham on Sea, Somerset

Sea Wall

01 Jan 2023 29 35 468
Benches built into the rather battered sea wall on the Bristol Channel Coast at Watchet, Overlooking the harbour, facing south and sheltered from the prevailing wind, they are sought after seats in the better weather despite the condition, The Bristol Channel has a huge tidal range and is open to Atlantic Storms, so sea defences take a terrible battering during winter months. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bristol_Channel

Seaside Dereliction,

21 Apr 2022 53 88 749
This was the site of Royal Pier Hotel Weston-super Mare, which was destroyed by fire in 2010 and eventually demolished by the local council, sadly this prime site is still undeveloped to this day. The walkway forms a part of the walk from the derelict Birnbeck around the Marine lake and onto the re-developed Knightstone Pier and harbour. (See location map) Graffiti artists have been busy and actually brightens up a very drab area. HFF and a good weekend, but stay safe
