Spadina Avenue, Toronto

Spadina Avenue, Toronto
Spadina rhymes with mynah, except when you're talking about Spadina House, when it's pronounced Spadeena. It's from an Ojibway word (ishpadinaa) that means ridge or hill

Hi,
I've been up and down Spadina enough times on periodical visits to Toronto and never once paused to wonder where the name comes from, very interesting.

There's so much going on on Spadina Avenue, Andrew, that I think you get distracted from issues like what the name means. I lived a block away from Spadina Road for many years, though, so finally checked it out.
