The Jeremiah Dinwoody house (1913, Joseph Arthur Harvey). Mr. Dinwoody made shoes, obviously very successfully.

I intended my Toronto houses album to be of examples of styles not found outside Toronto, and this house isn't an example of one, but I like it so I included it in the album, anyway.

Buelipix, Will S., Ruebenkraut, Andrea Ertl and 19 other people have particularly liked this photo

A lovely looking house...............and set in beautiful grounds by the look of it.

Captured in super detail John. I like the pineapple statues on each side of the steps.

Useless information: I don't know whether this applies to Canada but apparently aside from their decorative qualities, pineapples used to be a symbol of wealth as they had to be imported at great expense.

I read about this interpretation of pineapples recently, Keith, but it had slipped my mind, of course, so thanks for reminding me. Certainly this is the richest-looking house in a rich neighbourhood, so the pineapples may simply have been a sign of wealth. It was also taken for a long time as a sign of hospitality, though, but as a sign of wealth it would be appropriate for its era, when the rich liked to flaunt their riches.
