A good choice for b&w - it lends an air of Agatha Christie to the scene. And then it occurred to me to ask how a genteel window is so close to the castle as to offer this shot? That's not the usual vista from a Victorian-era window!

Thanks, Bob. This is zoomed up a bit, so castles may not be as close as they appear. Going by Google Street View, I'd say the actual distance is about 30 metres.

By the 1840s the castle was, it seems, rundown. Most of it was torn down for a railway viaduct. The keep has been renovated/restored several times since then and is now a tourist attraction.

How the hotel came to be there I don't know. I was told when I was there that it was a renovated warehouse, but how a warehouse came to be there I don't know.

Perhaps Cheryl Beal will drop by and tell us about it.

Great framing John ;-) ...................and perfect in black and white. Very well exposed too with super detail in the shadows areas.

As they might say in Geordie "that's a canny winda"

Thanks, Keith. I think I was attracted as much by the curtains as the castle.
