Edinburgh Jenners (#1150)
Jenners (Jenners Department Store) in Edinburgh, started in 1838 and has been at the same corner every since, though the building shown here opened in 1895 after a fire destroyed the previous buildings. The company’s early goal was to make elegance available in Edinburgh and it did that so well that it became known as “The Harrod’s of the North” -- from my short visit, it seems to still have that objective (despite having been sold to a franchise a number of years ago). There’s a characteristic of the architecture that’s particularly interesting, but I’ll hold that till the later picture of it.
