Raton, NM Streamline gas? (# 0016)

Raton, NM Streamline gas? (# 0016)
A former gas station on the south end of Raton, NM. I shot this picture quickly while focusing on another building; looking more closely at the picture when processing, I wish that I had gone across to examine the building more closely. If you look closely at a larger version of the picture, you’ll see multiple interesting details including the rounded corners and windows, the use of tile, the detail around the top of the posts holding up the canopy, the detail in the brickwork, the circular window by the garage door, and hints that the building is not rectangular – it’s almost hexagonal (see the satellite view). All suggestive of a Streamline Moderne design. To add to the intrigue, though not architectural, there’s the 1940’s automobile in the wash bay, and the ‘home of Nobel Laureate’ banner hanging in the front.
