Petaluma wetlands/heron (#0998)
While looking for a place to photography the railroad bridge in Petaluma, I discovered an almost hidden park. Shollenberger Park is accessible from a parking area that appears to be a private parking area for a resort; it has a good system of trails around a wetlands. The wetlands are artificial, created to hold dredge spoils created when keeping Petaluma creek navigable (see link). This heron flew in to hunt while I was there, but didn’t cooperate very well and so I never got a picture of it flying away; the heron was quite some distance away, so this is a telephoto shot.
