Adin CA Lower Rush Creek (#0083)

Lower Rush Creek campground outside Adin, CA. While this campground was peaceful and quite pleasant, I discovered that camping and age were conflicting on this trip. Even though I've done camping trips for years, on this trip I persistently had trouble sleeping soundly when camping and ended up staying in motels for most of the latter part of the trip. The main problem with that change is that I very often meet interesting people in campgrounds, but don't in motels.

Robin used to talk about one of those little travel trailers before she got on the van kick, but I never wanted to fool with the hassle of it. I think i could back it okay, but the idea of dragging the thing all over the place bugs me, so I'll probably never go that way. I have to say, though, that Dave Goulart's van looks really appealing to me. I'm still good with the air mattress, but the van is something to aspire to.

One of my biggest concerns is gas consumption, I find it personally hard to be a strong environmentalist and yet consume twice the gas (I got an average of 35 on this trip) when I use the vehicle for only about a third of my driving (I think Dave uses his in his work). You two, on the other hand, spend enough time on the road exploring that I could see it being reasonable for you to have a van. I checked around about renting something like Dave's and they are available (though too cute), but the upfront charges are high and then they charge extra for mileage over 100 a day -- and won't tell you what those extra charges are (I suspect high). The one thing I haven't checked is the cost of renting a small enclosed van from Enterprise.
