Los Angeles, Walt Disney Concert Hall (#5176)

Los Angeles, Walt Disney Concert Hall (#5176)
Frank Gehry designed Walt Disney Concert Hall, next to the new museum, The Broad. The hall, to me, still seems new even though it opened 12 years ago (October, 2003). See: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walt_Disney_Concert_Hall

I have to say, I've never been impressed with Gehry's work. I haven't seen this one in person, but the structures I have just strike me as gimmicky.

I'll have to admit that this has grown in appeal to me. When first seeing it years ago I immediately started thinking that all of those huge smoothly rounded surfaces were not going to age well and that it would quickly look sort of trashy. The fact that it's in a relatively elevated section of downtown and stands somewhat apart from the office towers helps in making its unusual appearance work.
