Weed, CA arch / fire(1065)
Iconic arch welcoming travelers to Weed, with damage from the Boles fire seen just above downtown. The Boles fire swept through Weed very quickly on the afternoon of September 15, 2014. Driven by high winds it moved very fast and threatened the entire town. (Burn area is noted in the photo.)

Wow. I was thru Weed last spring, so this has happened since and I hadn't heard about it! I was amused at how many of the souvenir gewgaws were playing off the double entendre "weed" as marijuana--

I hadn't been through there in decades, but that first time it had a 'laid back' vibe that continued. Not this time, it was all business with all of the contractors doing rebuilding.
