Before arriving at Cambridge it had been temporarily assigned to Stagecoach Merseyside (Glenvale) to provide increased capacity during railway engineering works on the Merseyrail Wirral line.

Tuesday 22 September 2026 (0935) – Johnsons Coaches, Henley-in-Arden – part of the Coach Travel Group - was one of three companies in the West Midlands to which National Express transferred some of its own in-house operations on 7 September 2026. BV73 ZXO, a Caetano Levante bodied Scania K410 was new in February 2024 to Woods Coaches, a National Express/Mobico company, in February 2024. It was working the 0900 National Express service 777 from Stansted Airport to Birmingham due to call at Cambridge (Parkside) (0945-0950) then Leicester (1130-1135), Coventry (1225-1230), Birmingham Airport (1255) and Birmingham (Digbeth) (1330). Seen on Trumpington Road (at Brooklands Avenue) in Cambridge from on board Stagecoach East 86024 (BV23 NTF).

Tuesday 22 September 2026 (1106) – The Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge is the art and antiquities museum of the University of Cambridge. The Museum’s treasures include artworks by Monet, Picasso, Rubens, Van Gogh, Renoir, Rembrandt, Cézanne, Van Dyck and Canaletto. The University of Cambridge sponsors the ‘Universal’ bus service running between Girton/Eddington and the Biomedical Campus/Addenbrooke’s Hospital. Bus operation is contracted to Whippet Coaches and worked with nine Mellor Sigma 12 electric single deckers new in September 2023. This shot from the stairway of Gallery 17 of the Museum sees one of the buses passing by. The Bus Times website showed the bus to be the 1048 service U2 from Girton Corner to the Biomedical Campus/Addenbrooke’s Hospital worked by WG112 (UN14 BUS). The original registration was MX23 LCU although that now carried depicts a play on ‘UNI for BUS’.

Tuesday 22 September 2026 (1206) – Whippet Coaches WG115 (MX73 GBY), a Mellor Sigma 12 new in September 2023 (initially registered MX23 LRU), seen turning from Hills Road to Brooklands Avenue, Cambridge. This was the same bus I had travelled on a short time before from Trumpington Street to Addenbrookes Hospital/Biomedical Campus as a Universal service U1 that had originated at Girton Road. It was now returning as service U2. Seen from on board Stagecoach East 10791 (SN66 VZO).

Tuesday 6 October 2026 (1701) – Mulleys Motorways YJ10 EZO seen arriving in Mildenhall when working the 1630 service 355 from Bury St. Edmunds. It is an Optare Solo that had been new in May 2010 to CT4N (Nottingham Community Transport), an operator which ceased trading in August 2026. It carries a former CT4N livery. After setting down the last passengers the bus would return empty to Bury St. Edmunds to work its last trip of the day, the 1735 Bury St. Edmunds-Bradfield St. George service 377. The driver has reset the destination display on the way into town.

It is an Optare Solo that had been new in May 2010 to CT4N (Nottingham Community Transport), an operator which ceased trading in August 2026. It carries a former CT4N livery. After setting down the last passengers the bus would return empty to Bury St. Edmunds to work its last trip of the day, the 1735 Bury St. Edmunds-Bradfield St. George service 377. It is an Optare Solo that had been new in May 2010 to CT4N (Nottingham Community Transport), an operator which ceased trading in August 2026. It carries a former CT4N livery.

I believe this service commenced at the start of the September 2026 College year and is one of eight dedicated services running on College Days for students at WSC and Abbeygate Sixth Form College from different locations each between 20-30 miles from Bury St. Edmunds. The name Zeelo is included on the destination display. That company’s website states ‘Zeelo is the smart bus platform for organizations. We design, manage and optimize transport programs to help our clients achieve their goals’. Based at East Dereham, prior to working this afternoon run the bus had spent the day working trips on service 11 (East Dereham-Swaffham) plus the morning run of school service 851. It later works the 1510 Watton-Thetford service 61 before working the 1625 WSC-Lakenheath service B6. The morning run of service B6 is worked by a different vehicle to that performing the afternoon run. After arriving in Bury St. Edmunds it goes on to work trips on the Thetford-Watton service 11 followed by the afternoon run of the Litcham-Watton school service 851. The day is rounded off with a Watton-Norwich-Watton-Toftwood working on services 3/3B.
