The inset photograph is at the same spot on 2 January 1987 - nearly 40 years ago!!

Thursday 10 September 2026 (1227) -A Stagecoach East Alexander Dennis (ADL) Enviro400 bodied double decker crossing the Victoria Avenue bridge over the River Cam in Cambridge. There are a number of boathouses on this part of the river from where the aspiring teams for the famous boat races set out.

Thursday 10 September 2026 (1253) - Stagecoach East 19697 (AE60 JRU), an Alexander Dennis (ADL) Enviro bodied Trident new in February 2011, seen in Northampton Street, Cambridge arriving with the 1205 service 4 from Cambourne. It would terminate at Drummer Street Bus Station at 1303.

Thursday 10 September 2026 (1253) - Stagecoach East 19697 (AE60 JRU), an Alexander Dennis (ADL) Enviro bodied Trident new in February 2011, seen in Northampton Street, Cambridge arriving with the 1205 service 4 from Cambourne. It would terminate at Drummer Street Bus Station at 1303.

Thursday 10 September 2026 (1227) – Whippet Coaches WG457 (BU25 ZFF) crossing the Victoria Avenue bridge over the River Cam in Cambridge. There are a number of boathouses on this part of the river from where the aspiring teams for the famous boat races set out. The bus was working the 1224 service T1 to Huntingdon. The service travels from Drummer Street bus station to join the Busway at Milton Road. It leaves the Busway at the Swavesey crossing taking to normal roads through the villages of Swavesey and Fenstanton. Two MCV eVoSeti tri-axle Volvo B8L tri-axle double deckers were added to the fleet specifically for the service in June 2025. These carry fleet numbers WG457/458 and registrations BU25 ZFF and BU25 ZFE (in that order).

A friendly driver that held back whilst a cyclist got out of the shot. It was working for the Vosaio Travel Group, a tour and travel organisation with sales offices in many countries worldwide

Monday 21 September 2026 (around 1220) - Since the closure of the enquiry office inside the bus station building, where just the public toilets were retained, the remaining area had been unsuccessfully advertised for let as a retail opportunity. It was finally decided to convert the unit for use as a town banking hub following the closure of the Lloyds and Barclays banks and the Post Office. Building work was taking place for the new use. Over the past days the contractors had been erecting fence panels fixed to large concrete block and by now this was complete and the raw wood panels painted. Mulleys Motorways Limited YJ23 EKN was working the Holywell Row and Beck Row to Bury St. Edmunds service 355 (1220 from Mildenhall). It is one of the two Optare MetroDeckers delivered to Mulleys in March 2023 which were part of an order placed by Reading Buses in June 2018 to operate the Green Line branded route 702 from London to Slough, Windsor and Legoland. Reading Buses cancelled the order in July 2020 as part of a number of financial cutbacks made following the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. (Optare was renamed Switch Mobility in November 2020).

Two buses operated by Coach Services Limited of Thetford were in the bus station between trips. BT63 UUR, parked in the layover bays, was between trips on service 80 (1000 from Thetford/1150 to Thetford). It is one of a pair of MCV eVolution bodied Volvo B7RLEs acquired from Simonds of Botesdale in early 2025 although they had been new to Webberbus, Bridgwater in December 2013. (BT63 UUP was the other vehicle acquired). BU16 OZN, on Stand B, an MCV eVolution bodied Volvo B8RLE new in July 2016, had returned from working the West Row circular service 358 and would be working the 1230 service 357 to Bury St. Edmunds via Worlington, Freckenham, Red Lodge, Herringswell, Tuddenham, Cavenham and Risby.
