Wednesday 16 September 2026 (1127) - Mulleys Motorways SJ02 AAW seen at Mildenhall when working the 1100 service 355 from Holywell Row and Beck Row to Bury St. Edmunds. It is a former Dublin Bus Alexander ALX400 bodied Volvo B7TL which I believe was their AV248 (02 D 10248) new around January 2002. In the background are two vehicles of Coach Services Limited of Thetford. Just behind is CS75 BUS, an MCV eVoRa bodied Volvo B8RLE new in November 2025, arriving as the 1025 service 357 from Bury St. Edmunds via Risby, Cavenham, Tuddenham, Herringswell, Red Lodge, Freckenham and Worlington. It was actually due here at 1115 and would go on to work the (1117) West Row circular service 358. In the far background is BT63 UUR on layover between trips on service 80 (1000 from Thetford/1150 to Thetford). It is one of a pair of MCV eVolution bodied Volvo B7RLEs acquired from Simonds of Botesdale in early 2025 although they had been new to Webberbus, Bridgwater in December 2013. (BT63 UUP was the other vehicle acquired). Since the closure of the enquiry office inside the bus station building, where just the public toilets were retained, the remaining area had been unsuccessfully advertised for let as a retail opportunity. It was finally decided to convert the unit for use as a town banking hub following the closure of the Lloyds and Barclays banks and the Post Office. Building work was taking place for the new use.

Scheduled time here is 1115. It is a Caetano Levante III bodied Scania K410 new to National Express (343) in February 2023. Local people chat as they wait for local buses to take them home after shopping. I recognise two that were waiting for the 1117 service 358 to West Row. Orange Sainsbury’s bags in abundance!

Saturday 12 September 2026 (0850) - Transport Made Simple/Central Connect/Simonds of Botesdale work the Flixbus service 950 between Norwich and Heathrow Airport. YJ26 VMO is a Yutong GT14 new in July 2026 seen at Fiveways, Barton Mills when working the 0600 service from Heathrow to Norwich. The road surface around the roundabout had been re-laid during the previous nights with overnight road closures. New lettering on the surface was now in place although the traffic cones still remained at the roadside. (Note Mulleys Motorways LW51 ZHJ on the left working the 0820 service 355 from Bury St. Edmunds to Mildenhall and Beck Row).

Saturday 12 September 2026 (0850) - Transport Made Simple/Central Connect/Simonds of Botesdale YJ26 VMO, a Yutong GT14 new in July 2026, seen at Fiveways, Barton Mills, when working the 0600 service from Heathrow to Norwich. The road surface around the roundabout had been re-laid during the previous nights with overnight road closures. New lettering on the surface was now in place although the traffic cones still remained at the roadside. Quite unexpectedly the coach took the A1065 road off the roundabout rather than the usual A11. It would seem the driver needed to ‘spend a penny’ and made a very short pit-stop at the Shell Service Station. At least he didn’t have to leave the coach by making use of the on board facilities!

Quite unexpectedly the coach had made a very short pit-stop at the Shell Service Station and was now continuing on its way. This explains the unusual exit from the A1101 Mildenhall Road. It would seem the driver needed to ‘spend a penny’ so made the quick call. At least he didn’t have to leave the coach by making use of the on board facilities! As I trotted back to the roundabout from where the coach was stopped I managed to hit a ‘wrong button’ on the camera resulting in the shot being a one second movie. As I took this shot the driver gave a toot on the horn. The road surface around the roundabout had been re-laid during the previous nights with overnight road closures. New lettering on the surface was now in place although the traffic cones still remained at the roadside.
