Ambassador Travel LT897 (A897 KCL) in Mildenhall – 10 Apr 1985 (15-98)
Wednesday 10 April 1985 – King Street, Mildenhall. Ambassador Travel LT897 (A897 KCL), a Plaxton Paramount 3200 bodied Leyland Tiger TRCTL11/3R new to Eastern Counties in November 1983, was working the 0605 Norwich to Bristol service 747. This duty involved the coach working a Norwich-Bristol-Norwich round trip within the same day – around 450 miles on cross country non-motorway type roads.

In the background is Eastern Counties VR206 (XNG 206S), an Eastern Coachworks bodied Bristol VR, working the 0747 Mildenhall (Field Road) to Bury St. Edmunds service 972.

It is fascinating to see the extent to which coach design has changed in the last 40 years. Even the architecture and street furniture already seem a bit dated. Your written notes add much interest as well. This must be around the time that the buses were deregulated necessitating stronger bodywork for the more demanding long distance journeys.

Designs certainly have changed over those four decades. What is frightening is the passage of that time. In my mind this just seems like just a short time ago.
