Eastern Counties VR307 (PRC 853X) in Mildenhall/Barton Mills – 18 Jun 1994 (228-06)

Eastern Counties VR307 (PRC 853X) in Mildenhall/Barton Mills – 18 Jun 1994 (228-06)
Saturday 18 June 1994 (approx. 1310) – Eastern Counties Omnibus Company VR307 (PRC 853X), an Eastern Coachworks bodied Bristol VR that was new to Trent Motor Traction in October 1981, seen as it left Mildenhall bound for Bury St. Edmunds.

Turning in to Station Road it had just crossed the bridge spanning the River Lark, the river forms the Parish boundary between Mildenhall and Barton Mills. So technically the bus is now in Barton Mills although it is generally considered to be part of Mildenhall.

Mildenhall once had a railway station which finally closed in July 1964 although the last passenger train ran in June 1962. The station was about 150 yards (137 metres) beyond the white house in the background therefore Mildenhall's railway station was not actually in Mildenhall but was in Barton Mills. The company which now trades from the former railway property shows its address as The Old Railway Station, Station Yard, Mildenhall, Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk.

Station Road (to the left), Worlington Road (to the right). The taller building on the right was part of the Bridge Farm Dairies factory which closed in 2003. After demolition houses were built on the site appropriately named Bridge Farm Close and Old Dairy Court. Despite their position all these addresses are quoted as 'Mildenhall, Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk'.
