Stephensons in Newmarket bus station - 23 Dec 2022 (P1140444)

Friday 23 December 2022 (0913) – After the wholesale withdrawal of Newmarket area services by Stagecoach East after 29 October 2022, Stephensons of Essex has become more prominent having stepped in to provide replacement services.

Driver and vehicle changeovers were taking place at The Guineas Bus Station, Newmarket in this photograph.

In addition to the company van are three buses which are (left to right):

461 (EU60 CBF), an Alexander Dennis (ADL) Enviro200D new in September 2010, which went on to work the 0930 service 12 to Cambridge.

609 (CY12 EMS), an Alexander Dennis Enviro400 bodied Scania N280UD about to work the 0920 service 11 to Cambridge. It was new to Express Motors of Penygroes, North Wales in May 2012.

434 (EU10 NVT), an Alexander Dennis (ADL) Enviro200D new in August 2010, had arrived on the 0820 service 12 from Cambridge. It then went on to work the 0910 service 16 to Mildenhall and Bury St. Edmunds.

Stephensons now operate the former Stagecoach services 11 and 12 between Newmarket and Cambridge. Service 11 travels via Burwell and a number of different villages (taking 74 minutes) and the faster service 12 which travels via Bottisham (taking 36 minutes).
