La construction de la cathédrale Notre-Dame-et-Saint-Privat de fut décidée dans les années 1360 par le pape Urbain V, elle a succédé à trois autres sanctuaires : le premier d'époque mérovingienne, le second préroman, ensuite roman. Elle fut victime des troubles des guerres de Religion et dut être en grande partie reconstruite au début du XVIIe siècle ; elle sera achevée au XIXe siècle par l'adjonction d'un portail néo-gothique.

ACROSS THE PORTAL ARCHES. The construction of Notre-Dame-et-Saint-Privat cathedral was decided in the 1360s by Pope Urban V, and it succeeded three other sanctuaries: the first dating from the Merovingian period, the second from the pre-Romanesque period, and then the Romanesque. It fell victim to the troubles of the Wars of Religion and had to be largely rebuilt in the early 17th century; it was completed in the 19th century with the addition of a neo-Gothic portal.

DURCH DIE PORTALBÖGEN. Der Bau der Kathedrale Notre-Dame-et-Saint-Privat de wurde in den 1360er Jahren von Papst Urban V. beschlossen. Sie folgte auf drei andere Heiligtümer: das erste aus der Merowingerzeit, das zweite aus der vorromanischen Zeit und dann aus der Romanik. Sie fiel den Wirren der Religionskriege zum Opfer und musste zu Beginn des 17. Jh. grösstenteils wieder aufgebaut werden; im 19. Jh. wurde sie durch den Anbau eines neogotischen Portals vollendet.
