Bei einzelnen Aufnahmen mit großen Helligkeitsunterschieden kann es vorkommen, das die hellen oder dunklen Bereiche keine Zeichnung mehr aufweisen. Hier wurden die entsprechenden Bereiche entweder über- oder unterbelichtet. In solchen Fällen wäre die HDR Fotografie eine Möglichkeit.
