Ein Prachtexemplar - A Magnificent Specimen

Kürzlich schlängelte sich in einem Laubwald ein Prachtexemplar von einer Blindschleiche (Anguis fragilis) quer über den Wanderweg Weg. Sie war ca. 40 cm lang! Noch nie sah ich Blindschleichen mit blauen Flecken auf der Oberseite des ansonsten bräunlichen Körpers. Dies ist lt. Wikipedia ein Kennzeichen älterer Männchen und gilt als Besonderheit. Nach dem Fotografieren verschwand die Blindschleiche im Unterholz.
Wichtig ist zu wissen, dass Blindschleichen keine Schlangen sind, sondern mit den Eidechsen verwandt sind. Also beinlose Eidechsen.

Recently, a magnificent specimen of a slow worm (Anguis fragilis) was slithering across a hiking trail in a deciduous forest. It was about 40 cm long! I had never seen slow worms with blue spots on the upper side of their otherwise brownish bodies. According to Wikipedia, this is a characteristic of older males and is considered a special feature. After I took a photo, the slow worm disappeared into the undergrowth.
It’s important to know that slow worms are not snakes - they are related to lizards. In other words, they are legless lizards.
