Ermattet vom langen Flug vom Mittelmeerraum bis nach Mitteleuropa, mit stark abgenutzten und beschädigten Flügeln, saugt dieser Distelfalter (Vanessa cardui) begierig Nektar an einer Blüte der Mariendistel (Silybum marianum). Die Raupen ernähren sich bevorzugt von verschiedenen Distelarten, auch von der Mariendistel. Die in Europa entstandenen Falter wandern dann im gleichen Jahr zurück in den Mittelmeerraum.

Exhausted from the long flight from the Mediterranean region to Central Europe, with heavily worn and damaged wings, this Painted Lady (Vanessa cardui) eagerly drinks nectar from a Marian Thistle (Silybum marianum) flower. The caterpillars prefer to feed on various species of thistles, including the marian thistle. The butterflies that emerge in Europe then migrate back to the Mediterranean region within the same year.
