... und zwar schon auf große Entfernung. Das gilt aber nur für die Gemeine Stinkmorchel (Phallus impudicus), die einen widerlichen Aasgeruch verströmt. Dieser Geruch lockt alle möglichen Fliegenarten an, welche die zuckerhaltige Sporenmasse an der Pilzspitze verspeist. Diese Insekten scheiden die Sporen aus und verteilen sie so in der Umgebeung. Die Deutsche Gesellschaft für Mykologie erklärte 2020 die Stinkmorchel zum Pilz des Jahres.

This odour attracts all kinds of flies, which eat the sugary spore mass at the tip of the mushroom. These insects excrete the spores and spread them around the neighbourhood. The German Mycological Society declared the stinkhorn mushroom the mushroom of the year in 2020. The photo was taken in a mixed deciduous forest.
