Zwei Pillendreher in voller Aktion - Two dung beetles in full action - Mit Video

Zufällig rollte mir eine kleine Kugel, etwa so groß wie eine 1 € Münze, über den Weg. Bei genauer Betrachtung sah ich den Motor der Kugel. Es waren zwei kleine, etwa 1 cm große dunkelgrau gefärbte Käfer, welche die Kugel eilig zum Wegrand rollten. Es war ein Pärchen vom Matten Pillendreher (Sisyphus schaefferi), einem in Deutschland sehr selten vorkommenden Verwandten des Heiligen Pillendrehers (Scarabaeus sacer). By chance, a small ball, about the size of a €1 coin, rolled across my path. On closer inspection, I saw the ball's motor. There were two small, dark grey beetles about 1 cm in size, which hurriedly rolled the ball to the side of the path. It was a pair of the Sisyphus schaefferi, a very rare relative of the sacred scarab (Scarabaeus sacer) in Germany.
