Ehemalige Kathedrale der Elektrizität - Former cathedral of electricity

Im Auftrag der Berliner Städtischen Elektrizitätswerke AG (BEWAG) entwarf Hans Heinrich Müller in den Zwanzigerjahren insgesamt 40 Umspannwerke. Sie sollten keine reinen Funktionsbauten sein, Müller wollte mehr. Sein Umspannwerk am ehemaligen Kottbusser Ufer, heute Paul-Lincke-Ufer (Bezirk Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg), sieht aus wie eine Kirche in norddeutscher Backsteingotik und heißt bald „Kathedrale der Elektrizität“. 1989 legt es die BEWAG still, mittlerweile ist es denkmalgerecht saniert. Heute finden Sie dort keine Kabel und Maschinen, sondern unter anderem eine Eventlocation und das Restaurant Volt.

On behalf of the Berliner Städtische Elektrizitätswerke AG (BEWAG), Hans Heinrich Müller designed a total of 40 transformer stations in the 1920s. They were not to be purely functional buildings, Müller wanted more. His transformer station on the former Kottbusser Ufer, now Paul-Lincke-Ufer (district Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg), looks like a church in North German brick Gothic and will soon be called the "Cathedral of Electricity".
