on his way to the south of the island today.
stopover in Den Burg
The church De Burght stands on the foundation of a Romanesque tuff stone church from the end of the 11th century. On both sides the church was extended so that the larger church enclosed the Tuffkirche so to speak. The present church was completed in 1452. The church was consecrated to John the Baptist. The top of the first tower of the church collapsed in 1539 and was only rebuilt in 1604.
In 1945 the church was partially destroyed. The bell was removed from the tower in order to melt it down.
One keyboard organ was built and completed in 1818. A wind machine was installed in 1934. The organ was restored in 1953 and 1986. 1991/92 the piping system was reintroduced.
