1910 Apeira syringaria (Lilac Beauty)
Geometridae, Ennominae - Wingspan: 38-44mm.
A locally distributed species occurring in central and southern UK, it is present throughout Cornwall, usually in or near broadleaf woodland. Usually only seen as infrequent single specimens. At rest, the fore-wings are radially folded near the front, and often the wings are partially raised to make a V- shape. Generally a nice orange-brown, it has a number of lilac coloured patches above the fold, but these can be almost white in older faded specimens.
The main flight season is between June and July, with occasional specimens also occurring in Cornwall in September, possibly due to a second generation early emergence.
