1932 Agriopis leucophaearia (Spring Usher) Dark Form
Geometridae, Ennominae Wingspan: 28-34mm.
A common species throughout the UK, but possibly under-recoded due to its early flight season. A quite variable species, this particular male specimen is darker than many individuals, where the dark edge areas are almost the same as the rest of the ground colour. A sexually dimorphic species, where the females are flightless and can sometimes be found perched on the tree awaiting the males to arrive, called by her pheromones.
As its common name implies, this moth heralds the start of Spring with a flight season between February and March. On good years, the males can be quite prolific in the proper environment.
