Carriage washing

SY 1770 sits in Diaobingshan Station at the head of a train for the mine villages to the east on the Tiefa Mining Railway. Whilst waiting for departure the carriage staff set about washing the outside of the coaches.

One of two terracotta figures on top of the former Darlington Technical College. This one carries technical emblems- a pair of dividers and the governor for a stationary steam engine. The college was built in 1896 and designed by local architect G.G Hoskins and is listed Grade II.
Restaurant and Grill Room

The Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway provided extensive opportunities for eating and drinking at Manchester Victoria Station. The glazed brick and terracotta with mosaic decoration and lettering still invites customers to the restaurant and bar. It dates from 1909 and is listed Grade II.

Technical College

Terracotta panel over the main entrance to the former Darlington Technical College. It was built in 1896 and designed by local architect G.G Hoskins in an elaborate Perpendicular style and is listed Grade II.
Scarsdale Vaults

I & F Dunnell owned the Scarsdale Brewery during the 1850s, and built this, at 40 St Mary's Gate, Chesterfield, as the Scarsdale Vaults in 1854. The stone pediment of the Vaults building is lettered with their name and 'WHOLESALE & RETAIL WINE & SPIRITS MERCHANTS'. The brewery head office was next door and the brewery at the rear survived until it was taken over by Whitbread in 1958 and closed in 1959.
Jinpeng brick

Continuous kiln viewed from a train approaching Jinpeng on the Jitong Railway in the Mongolian Autonomous Region of China. The straw covers await the drying bricks during the summer burning season. The extremely low winter temperatures preclude brickmaking at that time.
Bryn Mawr

The modern quarry tends to use mobile plant for crushing and screening rather than expensive fixed equipment. This is Bryn Mawr limestone quarry at Holywell Common.
Station Buildings

Stamford House in Altrincham, with offices over shops, was built as Station Buildings in 1904-5, by Charles Heathcote & Sons, for J.H.Brown Esq. a developer who lived in Ashley. It incorporates a lot of buff terracotta ornamentation. There are two staircase towers on the Moss Lane face, each topped with a small dome. This Grade II listed building was refurbished in 2014 to provide commercial accommodation and contemporary apartments.
The curved viaduct

The Jinpeng section of the Jitong Railway had so many great loctions for photography. The horseshoe viaduct at Simingyi sees QJs 6882 and 6639 head east on the climb to the summit at Shangdian.
Conveyors

Lantern

Dome and lantern on Tudor Hall in Rose Lane, Norwich. This building was designed as Boulton and Paul's headquarters and showroom by Thomas Plaford who was their in-house architect and designed many of their prefabricated buildings. It was built 1898-1900 and incorporates features from early Norwich houses: a doorway, window, roof timbers and a moulded ceiling. It is listed Grade II.
TPE at Irlam

A Trans Pennine Express service to Liverpool waits to depart from Irlam Station. As well as an excellent cafe the site has a fine local railway museum.
Top lock

The 102ft fall at the Ardnacrusha hydro-electric power station on the Shannon is overcome for navigation by a two-rise staircase lock. The falls are 68ft and 34 ft. This is reaching the top of the deep upper chamber. The locks and power station were completed by 1929.
Carnegie Library

The Carnegie Public Library in Ayr was built in 1893. It was built to the design of Glasgow firm Campbell Douglas and Morrison. Happily it remains as the town library.
