Tarn Hows ~ Gem of the Lake District

Tarn Hows ~ Gem of the Lake District
After 48 hours of torrential rain the sky turned blue and so we walked up to this wonderful scene from our cottage. We managed to walk the 3.3 km circular path here but it took some time, as having to stop so many times to compose and take photographs. Described as a stunning, man-made beauty spot in the Lake District National Park, famous for its picturesque lake, gentle circular walk, and views of the Coniston fells, created by James Garth Marshall in the 1860s from three smaller tarns and managed by the National Trust.

Enjoy full screen.

I know I took a lot of photos as I also knew that this was the only few hours of good weather for the week. - I was here last in 2017 as can be seen in my keyword here. Thanks for the star.

Keep good. Herb

Nice capture Herb you've done it great justice here, I remember visiting about 40 years ago-which is a bit terrifying to be honest

Thanks Richard. Our cottage for the week was only a mile or so from here and a nice walk in these conditions. I have always loved Tarn Hows since first visiting about 50+ years back. Which, yes, a bit terrifying for sure.

Cheers and Happy New Year when it comes. Herb

Such glorious weather and an amazing looking landscape Herb. I like the light and the reflections in the water and the fells make a magnificent backdrop.

I also like the contrast between the green trees and grass and the earthy tones in the foreground.

A corker of a shot my friend..!! ⭐️

It was a most unusual day for us as it seems a long time now since we had seen skies quite like this. We were looking forward to the Tuesday as it had forecast a rare break in the storms for us. A most delightful place to roam with a camera that could hardly fail to produce results. Many thanks for enjoying this so much for a star.

Happy 2026 when it comes. Herb
