HWW ~ The Huddersfield Narrow Canal at Greenfield.

A walk down our canal system is always worthwhile at this time of year as it is one of the few green paths that is relatively dry underfoot. As can be seen most of our autumnal golden leaves have already gone from here after recent storms but this curved walled part and its reflections can still bring a smile to our faces.

Yes these views are always good for photos. We were delighted yesterday to find a brand new to us tree-lines railway walk, totally unknown to us and just a 100 or so yards parallel to this, enabling a new round walk now. It expands our circular Greenfield walk from 4.5 to 8 miles- 50% old railway walk then 50 canal-side.

Ah Linthwaite near Huddersfield. Across the hill (or under it via the Standedge tunnel) from us here so not an area we frequent very often. We have walked along the canal from Marsden to Slaithwaite though. Glad this brought back memories as you are a long way from all this in Aus.

It has been one of our main strolls for many a year now Pete. Aye as you observe it is not so narrow in many a place but ask any canal barge owner about its narrowness and you will then know just how narrow it gets.
