Dance of the dragonfly

Dance of the dragonfly
Two dragonflies, mating. Seen in Norfork.

Sympetrum striolatum - Common Red Darter dragonfly. One of the most widespread and abundant of the dragonflies in Britain and Ireland, the Common Red Darter is sometimes referred to as simply the Common Darter. In Britain and Ireland this is one of our smaller dragoflies, with a typical body length of 40mm. The wing spots (pterostigmata) are variable in colour and can be red, brown or various shades of blue.

A beautiful close up of this dragon fly. I like the contrast between its red and the grey of the rock.
Great detail, Herb.

Thanks Adele. Something a little different from me. I have often seen dragonflies but failed to capture them. I too liked the harmonic colours and shaded here.

Best Wishes. Herbert

Beautifully captured Herb. The dragonflies look lovely, especially when viewed large, and the sharpness and detail are spot on. Very well observed and taken my friend..!!

Always good to have read your positive comments of my photos Keith. This is more like one of yours than mine and so am especially pleased that you liked it. They were quite still for a time and I managed to take a few shots before they flew.

Cheers. Herb
