NC500 GT. - 49 – Thurso

NC500 GT. - 49 – Thurso
Thurso has some wonderful headland cliffs on what is called Holborn Head. Populated by nesting seabirds it has some dizzying views. Its quite funny to see this fence jutting out over the cliff -maybe to stop birds from flying to the wrong cliffs :)

The NC 500: The Scottish 'North Coast 500' is one of the world’s most beautiful road trips. A route of just over 500 miles (516) of stunning coastal scenery, white sandy beaches, rugged mountains, remote fishing villages and hidden gems.

Looks like the rest of the fence might be on the beach!

Thanks Pete. This was not my HFF entry but it should have been. I had forgotten that I had reserved this one. Cheers anyway.

Belated HFF to you too. Herb

I'm getting vertigo just thinking about this image Herb............those cliffs are scarily high. You seem to have found a safe place to capture this image though. The sharpness and details are spot on, which shows you weren't shaking with fear :-)))

Even if the fence had been intact.............I still wouldn't have a clue why it was there..!!

I think I would get vertigo now too (as my ears have gone faulty!) but it was a great chance to see these scenes from an almost birds eye view via my long lens. Great that you liked the quality of this old cheapish lens.

Cheers. Herb

I know how you feel.............I never used to get vertigo at all, but when I retired from the RN, I my hearing started to deteriorate and I having problems with heights.

I'm almost totally deaf now without my hearing aids.........I'd be lost without them. They didn't cure the vertigo though, it's still there.

The fence I suspect has been spun by the winds - it must have had a purpose along the cliff edge at one time probably to keep the sheep off the cliffs
