Skinningrove

Skinningrove
Another village on our North Yorkshire coast with a lot of history. Here we see the coastal edge of the village with reminders of its fishing heritage.
Skinningrove was once just an agricultural and fishing economy and then in 1848 it experienced an industrial boom with local ironstone working. A railway was built in 1865 and iron smelting stated in 1874. A jetty was built in 1880 to allow ships to take away the cargoes. Mining continued until 1958 and the iron production finally finished in the 1970’s.
The Pip shows the beach from both sides of the jetty onto Cattersty Sands (with the red lifebelt) , known as a hidden gem.

A smashing set Herb..............I love the fishing boat with the carved figures in - it's really lovely and I'm guessing it's some sort of memorial.

The beaches in the PiPs look idyllic................and the light is gorgeous is both. There's nothing quite like a deserted beach!

Thanks for sharing!

Great shot that Herb - the composition and the figures are bang on to create interesting features... // Absolutely nothing against your picture whatsoever - but wouldn't you think the local council would put some regulations in place - to limit the building of those eyesore huts on the hillside.. a beautiful coastal bay can be ruined. // Anyway - it is still a top shot // Dj.

Hi David. Back home again now. ~ Great that you enjoyed this. My letter is already in the post to that council passing on your message :) In reality, I don't think many people make it down here to see those huts which as you say, are way out of place.
Cheers, Herb

Lovely images of a very peaceful scene, Herb. It must have been quite different in the past when everything was operating.

Yes from a busy little fishing harbour to a giant dirty production foundry. It must have been very noisy and dirty there for some years. Glad it is reverting back to its old self again where nature will again take control.

Take care. Herb

Nice set Herb and interesting location and information. I think there must be problems still on Ipernity as It shows a new photo from you in "News" but I cannot see it. I'll have another try later :-) All the best, Rosa.

Hi Rosa -glad you liked these. A short pause now before my next set from this area of our East coast. Happy that Ipernity is now OK, I missed most of it though by being away.
