The old boat winch

Seen overlooking the beach at Runswick Bay. Some years back there used to be a lot more fishing boats around here, now there are mainly memories and a few pleasure boats but this old winch survives to pull the odd boat up out of the water as seen.

The winch (shadow) can be seen on Google Earth - Herb'... - I was wondering what would prevent it tipping over when winding.. then I see a 'lug' set into the ground.. so I guess they would anchor it down..// An interesting window into times past... // Cheers from Dj..

Although I do wonder how much pull it could exert before tipping over.....
