Briksdalsbreen Glacier remembered

Briksdalsbreen Glacier remembered
A look at Briksdalsbreen Glacier and its lake in Norway, taken in Aug 2005. We travelled to this from Olden, on Nordfjord and was astounded by the beauty of it. See PiP
Unfortunately, we see it here before its impending death! - I was astonished to see yesterday, that this view has almost disappeared in the 14 years since we were here, due presumably to global warming. I did in fact manage to get underneath the ice here too. Only the very top is now visible as ice but the modern visitor have a few splendid waterfalls from the melting top of this in Summer.
See the decline of the glacier here.
Another from my Panoramio collection.
PIP. Enjoy full size.

Sarah P., , Berny, Annalia S. and 24 other people have particularly liked this photo

Herb, both of your pictures are totally spectacular! The colors and depth of tone are wonderful and so richly detailed. Glaciers are truly amazing, aren't they? I am crushed beyond words to learn that this glacier is gone. It's so heartbreaking. I cannot bear to read about such destruction because it totally wrecks me. There is something to be said of turning your head away from terrible things you cannot fix or even help. I am much too sensitive...so I quickly turn the page, click away, leave the site, etc, if I run into something bad which I cannot do a thing about and only makes me upset.

Thanks for the lovely pictures though, they are such a fine memorial!

And also, thank you very much for the visit to my last presentation, I'm glad you enjoy the images, and yes I know...I am always writing War and Peace for my descriptions and it's not possible to keep up with my babbling, but some folks actually DO make the time...don't know how they find it! :D Personally it's really kind of like writing a book a page at a time so it works out! :)

Have a lovely rest of your weekend!

Hi Keith. Quite amazing what this little Canon Ixus could do, and I still have it here -almost redundant now. It was quite a trip with a few spectacular captures taken. I loved the greeny blue ice and water reflections here. I also scrambled up part of the glacier and ducked underneath at one point but sadly did not take a photo of that event -or at any case -kept one. Yes, it was sad to see the demise of this on the latest Internet photos of it. Maybe one day it will be like this again but unlikely in our lifetime. Glad you enjoyed the pip.

Cheers, Herb

Very sad indeed Nora. Every day, I read and hear of other similar events around the word and also here in Britain.
