Die gehörnte Mauerbiene - eine hübsche Frühlingsbotin - a pretty spring messenger - PiP

Im Moment sind sie in Gärten und Grünanlagen häufig zu sehen: die Gehörnten Mauerbienen (Osmia cornuta). Mit ihrem leuchtend rostroten Hinterleib und ihrer starken Behaarung sind sie kaum zu übersehen und werden von vielen mit einer Hummel verwechselt. Die Gehörnte Mauerbiene lebt wie alle Mauerbienen solitär, bildet also keine Staaten und legt in Spalten und Röhren in Serie bis zu 12 Zellen an, in denen auf zuvor eingetragenem Pollen jeweils 1 Ei abgelegt wird. Die daraus enstandene Larve ernährt sich dann von diesem Nahrungsvorrat. Das Puppenstadium endet etwa im Herbst. Die geschlüpften Mauerbienen bleiben dann über den Winter in ihrem Nest.
Im Bild (und im PiP) eine Gehörnte Mauerbiene auf einer Gänseblümchenblüte sitzend. Es handelt sich um ein Männchen, das man an seinem weißen Haarpelz am Kopf erkennt.

Like all mason bees, the European orchard bee lives solitary, thus does not form states, and lays up to 12 cells in series in crevices and tubes, in each of which 1 egg is laid on previously deposited pollen. The resulting larva then feeds on this food supply. The pupal stage ends around autumn. The hatched mason bees then remain in their nest over the winter.
The photo and the PiP show a Europeas orchard bee sitting on a daisy flower. It is a male, which can be recognized by the white hair fur on its head.
