Saturday Self-Challenge Is Active Again! The Poppy Sellers

Saturday Self-Challenge Is Active Again! The Poppy Sellers
Saturday self challenge: The idea is to create an abstract design by deliberately photographing the subject out of focus.
This wasn't as easy as it sounds, so there was lots of trials and errors. The easiest way seemed to be focusing on a distant subject and then moving quickly to a close subject. I tried the other way round, and focused closely on the edge of a litter container and then quickly turned to a group of sixth formers selling poppies. The colour was removed and I used Silver Effex to bring out a more 'blocky' result. The original photo is in the PiP. It's even stranger when the image is inverted.

Not abstract enough for the challenge I don't think, Chrissy; but I did have a go. ;-)

Unglaublich, was du aus dem Originalfoto herausgeholt hast. Erinnert an alte Lith-Film-Effekte.

Thank you, Gisela. I see that everyone else seems to have used colour and been much more abstract and creative,

Less is more. It reminds me of the kind of opening, stylised black and white images that sometimes were made for sixties spy/detective/ thriller movies....And it looks very stylish on black.

You've hit the nail on the head, Steve. Now all I have to do is write a book, using this image on the cover, and then get someone to make a movie of it. ;-)

Thank you, Marie-claire. I think I took a bit of a risk with this photo, and many folks will not like it.

They make a very strong abstract in bw! I also like the inversion which looks really surreal.

Many thanks, Gudrun. It's the only B&W photo in a sea of colours. I have to say that I found this challenge quite difficult, and discarded many photos.

It doesn't sound at all easy Amelia! You have risen to the challenge.
I remember that song but sung by The King Brothers! Do you remember them?

My camera seems to re-focus very quickly even when I hold the shutter button down, Rosa, although it was easier to try with a close-up photo.

Thank you, Ulrich. The main photos was really quite boring, so I had to do something a bit drastic. ;-)

Very, very effective. Works superbly well in monochrome. A clever musical match for 'Sight and Sound.

Great idea to turn it in b /w, Amelia ! SilverEfex- processing matches good to the challenge.
So the result got such a strong, mystic touch.
