I like both images. We just saw a bunch of its cousin species (Himantopus mexicanus) here in San Francisco, where they are a fairly common sight along the bay. Very elegant birds.

I didn`t know of this wonderful bird.
In Wiki I found a good description of this bird, which is mainly native to Southern Europe (Spain, Hungary, Turkey and Russia). It is called "Stilt Runner" in Germany because of its long legs. I found there an exciting pic that shows the courage of this bird: Himantopus attacking Great White Egret
