Saturday Self-Challenge: Turm/Türme. - Zu den Hochzeiten des deutschen Nationalismus und Patriotismus ließ eine Stadt, die etwas auf sich hielt, es sich nicht nehmen, einen Turm zu Ehren des ‚Eisernen Kanzlers‘ Bismarck zu errichten. So auch die Stadt Hanau. Gestaltet wurde der Turm nach dem seinerzeit sehr beliebten und von der Deutschen Studentenschaft ausgezeichneten Entwurfs ‚Götterdämmerung‘ des Architekten Wilhelm Kreis. Grundsteinlegung war 1904; die feierliche Einweihung fand 1905 statt. Gekostet hat der 16m hohe Turm 28 000 Mark und wurde ausschließlich mit Spenden der Bevölkerung finanziert. Im Prinzip ist er innen begehbar; allerdings hat der Zahn der Zeit mächtig an ihm genagt und bleibt deshalb solange gesperrt bis sich ein Investor für die Sanierung gefunden hat. So fristet er sein Dasein auf einer Verkehrsinsel im Hanauer Stadtteil Kesselstadt nahe des Staatsparks Wilhelmsbad.
