A marvellous b/w, don't know how I missed this earlier. As I understand it, Brasilia was to some extent modelled on Canberra - is there really much parallel? I hope all is good there, big huggss xx.

An amazing city, designed on a very grand scale, in the shape of an aeroplane, with government official grand buildings built along a very, very long and wide Boulevard ( the body of the plane) and the embassies, offices, hotels, etc along the wings. It is very grand scale. Niemeyer designed all the major buildings along the body…Parliament, High Court, Treasury, Cathedral, Art Gallery. Most of these are very inspirational and cutting edge design. It was designed to move the administrative capital inland away from the mega cities of Rio and Sao Paolo, to try to move population inland with the enticement of
a custom designed city. I found it fascinating. We spent a week there with a Brasilian friend whom I met on Ipernity, and her nephew
