Out it comes!
Continuing my bridge series, the current activity is removing the concrete pylons of the old bridge. (Scale is important here, compare the size of the concrete with the crew on the barge). The top section sits on two concrete pillars and the removal process consists of cutting those off just below water level (PiP 1). While that is being done, the crane on the barge takes the weight of the concrete (PiP 2). Luckily I was able to find out the approximate time this one would be lifted (it's a two day preparation process). Finally, (PiP 3) the barge carefully takes the huge lump of concrete across to the other side of the river for disposal. The remaining sections of the concrete pillars are removed later.
With Friday arriving again, I'll wish everyone a very Happy Fence Friday and a safe and enjoyable weekend.
