We saw a lot of unusual mailboxes when we were there. Sadly the US postal service won't deliver mail to boxes that are not within their specifications.

The only real specification here, Ron, is that the slot to drop mail must be within certain a height range above the ground.

Many thanks for your comments and faves, everyone. You have prompted me to try to pin down the drum capacity (searched "vintage drums" on Ebay - there are collectors). I'd say it is a 12 1/2 Imperial gallon drum from the 1950s - dimensions of near 2 foot long and 14 1/2 inch diameter seem about right, also the placing of the bands. .
