... there was a gentle breeze on the last day of autumn
and all but one leaf had gone ... fallen on the ground or
been carried away on the breeze ... where will this one
go .....

The best opening line I can manage is "It was a dark and stormy night..." Doesn't seem to fit though. :)

then it went still ... and the dawn bird started to sing their song ...
the branches were almost bare and all the leaves had gone . . .
